RERA withdraws order that banned registration of new property that didn’t conform to building bye laws
With registration process at all the sub-registrar offices practically coming to a stop for the last one week, revenue districts have only been registering DDA flats and plots.
The Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA) has decided to withdraw its September order directing all sub-registrars in Delhi not to register any new property that does not conform to the Unified Building Bye Laws, 2016, Satish Kumar Chhikara, secretary, RERA, said on Tuesday. An order in this regard has been issued by RERA.
The development comes hours after Lieutenant Governor (L-G) Vinai Kumar Saxena held a meeting at Raj Niwas during which he asked RERA and other officers concerned to review the order in light of complaints from several people who said they were facing problems in getting their land and flats registered following the RERA order. The RERA had issued the said order on September 9.
During Tuesday’s meeting, Saxena met the Chairman and members of RERA, GNCTD, along with the Chief Secretary and the Divisional Commissioner and had wide-ranging discussions regarding the repercussion of the said order, officials from L-G House said.
Officials said that over the past several days, Saxena has been receiving several representations and complaints from public representatives, including MPs, MLAs and municipal councillors, along with Civil Society organisations regarding the registration of plots, flats and sale deeds, sale and purchase allegedly coming to a halt after the RERA order.
Notably, with registration process at all the sub-registrar offices practically coming to a stop for the last one week, revenue districts have only been registering DDA flats and plots, wills (wasiyat nama), and rent agreements. An official said that the halt was affecting revenue collection for the government as well.
“Registration of land and sale deeds is one of the main sources of revenue collection for the government. This is not only creating problems for the public, especially the middle- and lower-income groups, but for the government exchequer as well,” said an official.
